Google For India 2020:

Google on Monday at the sixth (and first-ever virtual) edition of #GoogleForIndia announced that it is investing ₹75,000 crores (approximately USD $10 billion) digitalization fund to help accelerate India’s digital economy. This fund will target a mix of equity, partnerships, operational, infrastructure and ecosystem investments.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai spoke about the success of digitization of small businesses. He mentioned that four years ago only one-third of small business in India had an online presence, today 26 million SMB’s (Small to Medium-sized Businesses) are discoverable on search and maps.

He also highlighted that nearly 2Mn+ users have used the Nearby Stores Spot on Google pay to find and buy essential goods. 3Mn+ businesses now accept contactless digital payments with Google pay for Business.

He said that the global pandemic has supercharged the adoption of digital tools and the importance of technology for conduction business and to stay connected with our friends and family.

Few highlights from Google for India virtual meet;

  • Google is partnering with CBSE, Skill Education and Training, to enable 1M+ teachers from 22,000 schools across India to deliver blended learning that combines the classroom approach with online learning. 
  • Google.org is giving $1Mn to kaivalya Education Foundation to work with CSF and TheTeacherApp to train over 700,000 teachers to deliver virtual education for students from low-income communities.
  • An Education series is coming soon in partnership with Prasar Bharati, that explores how small businesses can use digital tools to adapt to the current situation.
  • The Jobs Spot on Google Pay now connects job-seekers and employers with remote interviews and remote work listings.

Earlier today, Google CEO Sundar Pichai had a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they spoke on a wide range of subjects, particularly leveraging the power of technology to transform the lives of India’s farmers, youngsters and entrepreneurs.

Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Cabinet Minister for Human Resource Development, Government of India has tweeted to Sundar Pichai.
