TikTok banned in India, yes you heard it right govt. of India said in a press release late evening on Monday that they are banning 59 Chinese mobile applications citing privacy and security concerns.

The list consists of some top apps which were used day in and day out like TikTok, Shareit, UC Browser etc.

This move has come from India when there is rising tension on India china borders. Just two weeks ago there was a violent clash at the border in which around 20 Indian soldiers laid down their lives for India.

To put his weight behind the decision to ban 59 Chinese applications, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (01-07-2020) has quit popular Chinese platform Weibo by closing his account which he had joined a few years ago.

The process took 2 days as Weibo has a more complex procedure for VIP accounts to quit. The move to ban 59 Chinese apps is an excellent move on part of India.

Because India is an evergrowing market for global internet players. It will also help to safeguard a large number of mobile and internet users in India.

A day after the popular Chinese App TikTok banned in India it has posted the following update regarding the ban on their Instagram handle TikTok India


An Update

The Government of India has issued an interim order for the blocking of 59 apps, including TikTok and we are in the process of complying with it. We have been invited to meet with concerned government stakeholders for an opportunity to respond and submit clarifications. TikTok continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law and has not shared any information of our users in India with any foreign government, including the Chinese Government. Further if we are requested to in the future we would not do so. We place the highest importance on user privacy and integrity.

TikTok has democratized the internet by making it available in 14 Indian languages, with hundreds of millions of users, artists, story-tellers, educators and performers depending on it for their livelihood, many of whom are first time internet users.

TikTok banned in India – ByteDance predicts big loss:

Meanwhile, ByteDance Ltd. a Chinese multinational internet technology company which also happens to be the parent company of TikTok has predicted a loss of over $6 Billion following India’s ban on Chinese Apps

It is to be noted that in the list of 59 Chinese Mobile Apps banned in India three products are from ByteDance Ltd.

Those three Apps are;

  1. TikTok
  2. Helo
  3. Vigo Video

Club Factory Fraud:

In the midst of all these, A woman in Tamil Nadu has lost Rs.60,000 in Club Factory Mobile App.

It is learned that the women contacted the customer care for a refund of Rs.550 because the product she ordered could not be delivered. The customer care representative asked for a screenshot of her ATM card along with the OTP number which she provided, within a few minutes Rs.60,000 was deducted from her bank account when she realized she had been cheated it was all too late. The lady has registered a complaint with the cybercrime police in Chennai.

So, before downloading any App remember to research their credibility online. There are lot of websites which provide good reviews on Mobile Apps. It is always better to be safe than to be sorry.
